The Telegraph reports that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has raised doubts about his future at the club after their FA Cup semi-final loss to Manchester United on Saturday evening.
Spurs took the lead in the match after just ten minutes through Dele Alli but were eventually beaten by goals from Alexis Sanchez and Ander Herrera, to crash out of the competition for the second successive year at the semi-final stage, despite leading in both matches, the same fate befalling them last year against Chelsea. Moreover, since last winning the Cup in 2001, Tottenham have reached the semi-finals on eight occasions – and lost every time.
Now Pochettino has raised fears that he may not be prepared to wait around for Spurs to win a trophy, saying “to create that success doesn’t take a few years, Tottenham needs more time – with me or another (manager).”
Pochettino has been with Spurs for four years, and has helped establish the club as a top-four challenger and regular participant in the Champions League. Despite that, the team are gaining a reputation for choking on the big occasion, with critics pointing to several League challenges that ended in failure, their loss to Juventus in the Champions League this season, as well as to the FA Cup disappointments. They also note that even the much-derided Arsene Wenger has won two FA Cups during Pochettino’s tenure in North London.
