The Daily Star reports that Manchester United have been linked with an £87 million move for Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen in the event that David de Gea leaves Old Trafford this summer.
De Gea is a long-term target for Real Madrid, and nearly joined the Spanish champions in 2015. Rumours linking him with a move back to his native Spain continue to surround him, amidst reports that Real are preparing a mega-bid for his services this summer.
Manager Jose Mourinho is reluctant to sell a player widely regarded as one of the best players in the world but, in the event that a deal is forced on him, ter Stegen is being considered as a potential replacement.
German international ter Stegen moved to Barcelona from his hometown club of Borussia Monchengladbach in May 2014, and has since gone on to firmly establish himself as the number one goalkeeper for the Catalans, having made 133 appearances for the club in all competitions.
