Liverpool young full-back set for new contract

The Daily Mirror reports that Liverpool are set to offer their teenage full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold a new contract, after a break-through season at the club which has even surprised his manager, Jurgen Klopp.

The 19-year old only signed a new long-term deal at the club last summer, but has earned an upgrade in less than a year, with a string of impressive performances which could yet see him force his way into Gareth Southgate’s plans for the World Cup.

Liverpool were already planning to offer the player a wage boost, but the way he acquitted himself in the Champions League quarter-finals against Manchester City have confirmed their thinking, and talks over a new deal will take place in the summer.

Alexander-Arnold has been at Anfield since he was 6 years old, and made his first-team debut for Liverpool just after his 18th birthday in an EFL cup-tie against Spurs. He has since made 39 appearances for the Reds’ first-team, with club legend Jamie Carragher predicting that the player may go on to break his all-time total of appearances for the team which currently stands at 737 games.
