England international Danny Drinkwater could be set to leave Chelsea after only a season, according to The Daily Telegraph, with the central midfielder international frustrated by his lack of first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge.
Drinkwater signed for Chelsea at the end of the summer transfer window from Leicester City in a £35 million deal, but has since started only five Premier League claims for the Blues, with unconfirmed rumours that the midfielder was foisted upon manager Antonio Conte against his wishes. There has also been talk that the player has failed to impress his Italian manager in training.
The 28-year old pushed hard for his move to Chelsea, amidst hopes that he could rekindle his midfield partnership with N’Golo Kanter that helped propel Leicester City to the title in the 2015 – 2016 season but things have since gone sour for the player at Stamford Bridge, and he finds himself behind the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Tiermou Bakayoko in the pecking order at the club.
