The Daily Mirror reports that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has set a new record for Arsenal to prove he was worth the £56 million that the club spent on him in January.
The Gabonese striker equalised for the Gunners in their 3 – 2 home win over Southampton, and, in doing so set a new record. His goal meant that, in his first seven Premier League appearances for the club, he has been directly involved in seven goals, with one assist and six goals. That takes him past the likes of Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Nicolas Anelka, and it looks like the outlay on him was well worth the money.
Despite his efforts, it was another Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck who took the plaudits on the day, with an assist and two goals, as his team held off a Southampton team scrapping for safety towards the foot of the Premier League.
