Willian set to replace Juan Mata at United

According to the Metro, Manchester United are confident of signing Willian from Chelsea in the summer, with Juan Mata poised to leave the club.

Manager Jose Mourinho is a big fan of Willian and is confident he can secure a deal for the Brazilian international, as he tries to put together a squad that can compete with Manchester City for the Premier League title. Attempts were made to attract the player to Old Trafford last summer, but Willian decided to stay put after Chelsea won the title and booked their return to the Champions League.

However, with the West London club likely to drop into the Europa League next season, the attacking midfielder is thought to be more receptive to a move, and a hook-up with his former Chelsea manager.

Wilian’s arrival could, in turn, see Juan Mata depart United. Whilst the 29-year old Spaniard wants to stay at United, he has failed to earn a regular starting spot under Mourinho, and could be jettisoned by his manager in the summer, much as he was when the pair were at United, and Mata was sold, despite winning the club’s Players’s Player of the Year award on two successive occasions.
