According to The Daily Mirror, Old Trafford bosses are ready to give Jose Mourinho a summer transfer war chest of £200 million, as he plots to close the gap next season to their bitter rivals Manchester City.
Mourinho is set to completely re-model United’s back-four in the summer with Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian all set to leave the club, and Phil Jones and Chris Smalling all facing an Old Trafford exit as well, in addition to Luke Shaw who has been ostracised by his manager.
The Portuguese is drawing up a shopping list which includes the likes of Real Madrid stars, Toni Kroos and Raphael Varane, PSG duo Marquinhos and Marco Verrati, along with Alex Sandro of Juventus.
It is also rumoured that Tottenham’s Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld, as well as Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin and Celtic’s Kieran Tierney are also being tracked.
United have the second-best defensive record in the Premier League this season, but, on occasion, have had to rely too much on goalkeeper David de Gea, who proved his worth again on Saturday with two brilliant saves in a minute to deny Swansea’s Tammy Abrahams during United’s home victory over the Welsh side.
