Manchester City to open talks with Raheem Sterling as Real Madrid wait

The Daily Mail report that Manchester City are ready to open talks with Raheem Sterling over a new contract, amidst separate rumours suggesting Real Madrid are interested in signing the England forward.

The 23 year old has two years left on his current deal at The Etihad, but Manchester City hope to tie the player to a long-term deal, with manager Pep Guardiola wanting Sterling to follow the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Fernandinho, David Silva and Nicholas Otamendi in pledging his long-term future to City.

Sterling, who moved to City from Liverpool in 2015 for £49 million, has enjoyed his best-ever season, scoring 20 goals with 11 assists in all competitions so far.

However, it now appears that Real Madrid are also interested in signing Sterling, The Spanish club are planning a summer overhaul of their squad, with the likes of Gareth Bales, Karim Benzema, and Isco all set to depart, and Sterling is now reported to be on their shopping list, along with the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Eden Hazard.
