The Daily Mail reports that Arsenal have held preliminary discussions with Bundesliga side SC Freiburg over a summer move for their centre-back Caglar Soyuncu.
The 21-year old Turkish international has earned a reputation as one of the most promising defenders in Europe, and has been compared by the German media as a young Mats Hummels. Good on the ball, the 6ft 2in tall defender is strong in the air, has pace and reads the game well.
Soyuncu has attracted attention from both Manchester clubs, Liverpool and Roma in the past 12 months, but now Arsenal, who had scouts in the stadium to watch his performance for Turkey in their friendly victory over the Republic of Ireland, have emerged as the favourites to sign him.
Freiburg are reluctant to sell the player who they bought from Turkish second-division outfit Altinordu for just £2.4 million in 2016, and are thought to want as much as £30 million for the defender who has won 9 international caps for his country already.
