The Daily Mail reports that Manchester United officials are worried that Alexis Sanchez is set to become a flop at Old Trafford, fearing a repeat of the problems they faced with Angel di Maria.
Sanchez, who was signed from Arsenal in January on a total salary of £600,000 a week including bonuses, is the highest-paid player in the Premier League, but is struggling to settle at United, and has scored just one goal in 10 appearances for his new club.
His poor form saw him dropped to the bench for Saturday’s FA Cup tie with Brighton, and United staff are becoming increasingly concerned about his sullen attitude in training and his demeanour at the club’s Carrington training ground where the Chilean appears an isolated figure, often eating alone in the canteen.
Regular followers of Sanchez know that such behaviour is not untypical of the man, who adopted similar behaviour during his time at Arsenal and also when away on national duty with the Chile national team.
However, some at United are fearing a repeat of Angel di Maria saga, who was signed by United for a British record fee in 2014 but lasted one dismal season in the Premier League before he was sold to Paris Saint-Germain the following year.
