The Daily Express reports that Barcelona want to make a move for Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso in the summer, apparently with the blessing of Lionel Messi who has given the green light for the transfer to go ahead.
Although they are favourites to win La Liga, and are still in both the Champions League and Copa del Rey, Barcelona are already planning for next season, and have identified left-back as an area that they want to strengthen.
Their first choice was said to Bayern Munich’s David Alaba, but have concluded that he would cost too much and have decided to look for cheaper alternatives.
Alonso, who impressed in both legs of Chelsea’s Champions League tie against Barcelona, seems to fit the bill, and apparently Lionel Messi have endorsed the Catalans pursuit of the player.
It is not clear, however, if Chelsea would countenance a player who has been one of their most consistent performers this season and remains under contract until June 2021.
