Manchester United join race to sign Hector Bellerin

The Daily Mail reports that Manchester United are ready to enter the race to sign Arsenal full-back Hector Bellerin.

Despite being under contract until 2023, Bellerin has been linked with a move away from The Emirates in the summer, with reports that Arsene Wenger is ready to sacrifice the Spaniard to fund a rebuilding of the team.

Juventus are thought to be the favourite to sign Bellerin but now reports have emerged that Manchester United are ready to challenge the Italian champions for his signature.

Arsenal’s head of recruitment Sven Mislintat wants to make 3 major signings in the summer, with a new goalkeeper, central defender and holding midfielder set to top the shopping list, and the £50 million the sale of Bellerin is expected to realise will help to fund the purchases.

While some amongst the Arsenal fan base see Bellerin as a key part of the club’s failure, he has alienated other supporters. He was targeted for abuse during the Gunner’s defeat at Crystal Palace last season, and his criticism of YouTube channel, ArsenalFanTV, during a Q&A at the Oxford Union in February, was not well received in some quarters.
