The Mirror reports that Manchester United hope to beat teams like Arsenal and Chelsea to the signature of Valencia left-back Jose Luis Gaya.
The 22-year old has been identified as a replacement for Matteo Darmian, who is on his way to Juventus in the summer.
The full-back, who is a Spanish under-21 international has made more than 100 competitive matches for Valencia since breaking into the team as an 18 year old, and is regarded as a rising star.
With Matteo leaving, and Luke Shaw out of favour again at Old Trafford, United’s left-back options are currently limited to Ashley Young, who is 33 years-old and a converted winger.
Young has been playing well but his defensive limitations were exposed in The Champions League against Sevilla this week, as he failed to spot the run of Wissam Ben Yedder for the Spainish side’s second goal in their 2 – 1 defeat of United at Old Trafford.
