Mourinho warns Real Madrid off de Gea

The Independent reports that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has warned Real Madrid off trying to sign goalkeeper David de Gea, believing they would be wasting their time if they pursued his player.

Real came close to signing de Gea in the summer of 2015 only for the deal to fall through at the last minute and retain an interest in trying to sign the 27-year old.  However, Mourinho is confident that de Gea will remain a United player, telling Spanish TV channel La Sexta “I do not know Real Madrid’s intentions, but, if I were them, I would think of another player.

De Gea’s current £200,000 a week deal at Old Trafford is set to expire in June next year, but United intend to tie him down with a new contract and are confident that the Spanish international will choose to extend his stay in Manchester, rather than return to the city of his birth.
