Arsenal record-breakers chalk-up personal milestones

Arsenal’s 3 – 0 victory over Watford on Sunday not only got the club back to winning ways in The Premier League but, as BBC Sport reports, there were also personal milestones achieved by Petr Cech and Mesut Ozil.

Cech managed the distinction of becoming the first goalkeeper to achieve 200 clean sheets in the Premier League. He had been stuck on the 199 mark for 11 games, and last week took the blame for the two goals that the Gunners conceded in their defeat at Brighton. However, he went from zero to hero in a week, capping off his display on Sunday with a penalty save from Troy Deeney, the first time he has saved a penalty since denying Fulham whilst playing for Chelsea in 2011. The save was the sweeter for Arsenal fans because it was Deeney who missed, a player that had accused the Gunners of lacking “cojones” when the two sides met back in October.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the pitch, Ozil’s assist for the opener from Skrodran Mustafi was his 50th in the Premier League, and he beat the record of Eric Cantona to become the fastest player to reach that mark. However, he still has some way to go to beat Ryan Giggs all-time record of 162 assists.
