PSG set to offer Arsene Wenger a shock escape route

According to the Metro, Paris Saint-Germain are set to offer Arsene Wenger a shock escape route out of Arsenal.

Wenger is under intense scrutiny after a recent run of poor results has seen Arsenal lose the Carabao Cup, crash out of the FA Cup at third round stage, and struggle in the lead. Supporters and fan forums are calling for him to be sacked, and whilst he has always enjoyed the support of the club’s owner Stan Kroenke, there are signs that support for the Frenchman at board room level is starting to erode.

Now it looks like PSG may be ready to offer him a lifeline, with President Nasser Al-Khelaifi, said to have asked Wenger if he would be interested in taking over the club for the 2018-2019 season.

PSG’s current manager, Unai Emery, is likely to be sacked in the summer, after the club were knocked out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage on Tuesday, losing 5 – 2 on aggregate to Real Madrid, despite having spent more than £400 million on the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in order to increase their chances of winning the coveted European trophy.
