Petr Cech Arsenal future in doubt as club eyes German stopper

The Daily Mail reports that Petr Cech’s future as Arsenal number one goalkeeper is in doubt, with the club said to be watching Bayer Leverkusen’s Bernd Leno.

They claim that the new head of recruitment at The Emirates, Sven Mislintat, wants to bring in a new keeper in the summer, and Leno, who he rates highly, is on the short-list, along with Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and another German, Timo Horn.

35-year old Cech has been struggling, along with the rest of the Arsenal team in recent weeks, and publicly accepted responsibility on Twitter for the two goals on Sunday that saw the club suffer their fourth successive defeat away to Brighton saying “if you want to win a game away from home in the best league in the world your GK cannot concede 2 goals like I did today – it’s simply not possible”.

Arsenal are likely to need a new goalkeeper in the summer anyway, with Columbian David Ospina ready to leave the club, but now it looks like Cech may have to be content with a back-up role next season as the Gunners look to revamp their defence.
