Chelsea boss under fire after players question tactics

Arsene Wenger is not the only manager of a London club under pressure, as Chelsea players publicly expressed their disquiet at the tactics employed by Antonio Conte in their clash against Manchester City on Sunday, reports The Express.

Chelsea went into the match without a recognised striker, with both Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud left on the bench, and Eden Hazard leading the line.  As a result, the Blues failed to register a single shot on target, and although they only lost to a solitary Bernardo Silva goal, the score line did not do justice to City’s dominance over 90 minutes.

Afterwards, Marco Alonso admitted that his side had “an attitude problem”, whilst Giroud said “could we have been more ambitious? It’s a good question. The coach made his tactics. We tried to respect that.”

Meanwhile, pundit Gary Neville described the display from the defending champions as “embarrassing and unacceptable”.

Conte responded to the criticism in a typically feisty manner saying “the pundit has to use his head to understand when you speak about tactics. I think you must have knowledge to speak about tactics and not only to speak in a stupid way”.
