Bookmakers pay out on Wenger as next manager to be sacked

The Daily Mirror reports that leading bookmakers Paddy Power have paid out on Arsene Wenger being the next Premier League manager to be sacked.

The Arsenal manager is under intense pressure following four defeats in a row, with the latest reverse coming at Brighton on Sunday, where the Seagulls beat the Gunners for the first time in 36 years.

Although Wenger has a contract at Arsenal under June 2019, his position is set to be reviewed at the end of the season. However, there is now a significant portion of the fan base who wants him to leave now, with increasing signs that he is beginning to lose the dressing room at The Emirates.

It was reported last week that the players held an internal meeting in the wake of the Carabao Cup defeat to Manchester City to discuss their recent poor form and how they could turn matters round. They concluded that they needed more help from their coaches but, with the current set-up at Arsenal, it was not going to happen, and they needed to find answers on their own.

Wenger still has the Europa League to play for, but defeat to AC Milan could well see his 22-year tenure at the club brought to a sad and premature end.
