According to The Evening Standard, Chelsea are being linked with a summer move for Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles.
The Blues want to add another central defender to their ranks and, having monitored the 24-year old since 2016, may be ready to make a move for him when the transfer window opens again. Chelsea want to add more English players to their squad, and also want to lower the average age of their centre backs, with Gary Cahill and David Luis both over 30, and Lascelles fits the bill on both counts.
Lascelles has impressed at Newcastle this season and was rewarded with a new six-year contract in October. However, any offer from Chelsea is likely to represent a substantial salary increase for the Derby-born player, and while Newcastle do not want to sell him, they may find it hard to turn down a substantive bid for their captain, especially if the club slips back down into the Championship.
