Jose Mourinho wants to bring Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos to Old Trafford in the summer, reports Metro.
The 28-year old German was set to join United in 2014 on a free transfer in 2014 when David Moyes was in charge, but the dismissal of Moyes and the appointment of Louis van Gaal in his place scuppered the deal and he joined Real instead.
Kroos has won two Champions League titles and La Liga during his time in Spain, as well as being a key element of the Germany side that won the World Cup in 2014.
Despite this, Real Madrid are planning a summer overhaul of their squad, and United are hoping that they can be persuaded to sell Kroos, with Mourinho already admitting that the club will sign a midfielder once the transfer window opens again, with Michael Carrick set to retire and Maroune Fallaini set for a move to Besiktas.
Kroos is seen as important because it will allow United to play with a midfield three, with Pogba the most advanced of the trio, just as he was with Juventus.
