The Daily Mirror report that Manchester United are ready to rival Arsenal for the signature of Benfica winger Andrija Zivkovic.
The 20-year old winger has been attracting attention across Europe, since breaking through at Partizan Belgrade aged just 17, and went on to become the youngest captain in their history, before moving to Benfica in July 2016.
He has since gone on to make 42 appearances for the Lisbon club in all competitions, scoring 3 goals in the process.
Zivkovic won the under-20 World Cup with Serbia in 2016, and is the youngest ever player to represent his country at full international level.
Arsenal have been tracking the player for some time, and had scouts watching him play in Benfica’s win over Rio Ave on February 1st, and then again on the weekend when he scored in their fixture away at Portimonense.
However, Manchester United also had representatives at both games, so a bidding war for the player in the summer may be on the cards.
Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
