Manchester City ready to offer Ederson bumper new deal

The Sun reports that Manchester City are ready to reward goalkeeper Ederson with a new deal, even though he has only been at the club 7 months.

At the time he joined the club last June from Benfica, there were questions raised the wisdom of signing such a relatively inexperienced player for what was a record fee for a goalkeeper, £34 million.

However, the Brazilian has gone on to impress in his first season in England, and with City ready to celebrate winning the Premier League, bosses at The Etihad want to give the 24-year new terms, which will see his current weekly salary of £70,000 substantially increased.

Ederson is currently contracted until 2022, but manager Pep Guardiola predicts a long stay for the goalkeeper at The Etihad. A City source said “He was an expensive purchase but has been worth every penny. He has delighted Pep how quickly he has settled in”.

Despite his stellar recent form Ederson is not first choice for his country, and is likely to be back-up to Roma’s Allison in this year’s World Cup finals.
