According to The Daily Mail, Manchester City have made a late bid to sign Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez before transfer deadline day.
City have just broken their club record to sign defender Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao in a £57 million deal, but now it looks like they may be ready to splash the cash again with the capture of Mahrez.
Whilst City are thought to have had Mahrez as one of their summer transfer options, they are prepared to make an early bid for the 26-year old Algerian, following the news that Leroy Sane, who was injured playing in the FA Cup against Cardiff, could be out of action for up to 7 weeks.
Another motivation for City to make their move now are potential new UEFA rules, which, if introduced, will penalise clubs who make losses of £90 million or more in a single transfer window.
Mahrez would also be eligible to play for City in the Champions League, as Leicester have had no European football this season.
