talkSPORT report that West Bromwich Albion have won the race to take Daniel Sturridge on loan for the rest of the season.
Sturridge had widely been expected to be joining Inter Milan, but, although the Italian club had reached an agreement with Liverpool over the loan, the player turned the move down because he prefers to stay in England. Over the weekend, it had been widely reported that Newcastle United were in pole position to secure his services, and Sturridge had talks with manager Rafa Benitez about the 28-year old striker signing for the Tyneside club.
However, Sturridge rejected them also, and has opted to join West Brom instead, with family ties to the area for the Birmingham-born player said to be a key factor in his decision.
West Brom are trying to stave off relegation, and are currently level with Swansea at the foot of the table, separated from the Welsh club just by goal difference.
Recruiting Sturridge for the rest of the campaign would be a major boost to their chances of survival this season, whilst the player will hope that playing regular football could improve his chances of still forcing his way in Gareth Southgate’s plans for the World Cup.
