West Ham bid for Fulham skipper turned down

SkySports have reported that a bid by West Ham to sign Fulham skipper Tom Cairney has been turned down by the Championship club.

West Ham’s offer of £15 million was rejected out of hand, with Fulham allegedly telling West Ham that they were wasting their time, and not even an offer of £40 million would persuade them to part with the player.

The 27-year old midfielder is said to want to join West Ham, but having signed a contract extension with Fulham until 2021, is not in a position to force a move away from a club for whom he has made 110 appearances in all competitions since signing from Blackburn Rovers in 2015.

Cairney was born and raised in Nottingham, but is eligible to play for Scotland through his father, and has played for the national side at both under 19 and under 21 level. He made his full international debut in a 1- 1 friendly draw with Canada last year.
