The Daily Telegraph reports that West Ham United have turned down a £14 million bid from bottom club Swansea City for striker Andre Ayew.
West Ham signed Ayew from the Welsh club in August 2016, and he has gone on to player 50 times for the Hammers in all competitions, scoring 12 goals. However, he is not currently first choice under manager David Moyes, and the London club may be willing to sell him for an and improved price, with Swansea almost certainly having to break the club record transfer fee of £15.5 million to resign the player.
However, one potential impediment to any deal is the ankle injury suffered by Andy Carroll which is likely to see him sidelined for a month. This may persuade the Hammers to keep Ayew as cover, especially as there are reports that Javier Hernandez may be on his way out of the club before the January window closes.
Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
