Arsenal agree deal to sign £45 million replacement for Alexis Sanchez

The Metro reports that Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Bordeaux’s Brazilian winger Malcom from Bordeaux as a replacement for the departing Alexis Sanchez.

The player’s representatives have been in London for the past few days and now it has been reported by Goal Brazil that the 20-year old will move to Arsenal in a €50 million (£45 million) deal, which will officially be announced in the next few days.

The long-running Sanchez saga took a final, and perhaps, definitive twist on Sunday as he was left out of the Arsenal squad for their trip to Bournemouth with manager Arsene Wenger admitting after their 2-1 defeat that the player could leave the club “in the next 48 hours”.

Wenger has long said that Sanchez will only be allowed to leave once a suitable replacement has been found, and now it appears that Malcolm, who has made 68 league appearances for Bordeaux since signing from Corinthians in 2016 is the solution.

The news of Malcom’s arrival will come as some comfort for Arsenal fans lamenting the loss of Sanchez and the team’s latest poor performance, and they have also been cheered by the news of Manchester City’s defeat to Liverpool, which means the record of the 2003-2004 “invincibles” of going through an entire season undefeated is safe for another year.
