United and Arsenal leading chase for Brazilian midfielder

The DailyStar report that Manchester United and Arsenal are leading the chase to sign Shaktar Donetsk attacking midfielder Fred, with news that the Ukrainian club are prepared to listen to offers for the 24-year old.

A host of other European clubs are also said to be interested in the player, including United’s neighbours Manchester City, PSG, Napoli, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid.

However, it is United and Arsenal who are said to be the keenest, with both clubs looking to bolster their attacking options.

Fred has played 140 games for Shaktar since his transfer from Internacional in his native Brazil when he was just 20. He has also got 6 full caps for his country and will hope to be part of this year’s World Cup squad.

One black mark against the player is the fact that he has previously served a drugs ban for using a proscribed diuretic – hydrochlorothiazide. However, that does not seem to have deterred his numerous suitors who are willing to pay in the region of £30 million for him.
