Qatar news outlet beIN Sports have claimed that Riyad Mahrez is set to have a medical at Liverpool ahead of a £48 million transfer, as the Reds seek an immediate replacement for the departing Philippe Coutinho.
According to the reports, the Algerian international is set to sign a deal that will tie him to the Merseyside club until June 2022, although the news has yet to be confirmed by Leicester, with their manager Claude Puel claiming that Mahrez will remain with the club until the end of the season.
However, coincidentally or not, Mahrez was left out of Leicester’s squad for their FA Cup tie with Fleetwood Town on Saturday and is not short of admirers, with Arsenal also heavily linked with a move for the player as they seek a long-term replacement for Alexis Sanchez.
The 2016 PFA Players’ Player of the Year has played 162 times for Leicester and score 43 times for them since signing from French club Le Havre in 2013.
