According to the Metro, reports in Spain suggest that the Real Madrid board have told manager Zinedine Zidane to forget about trying to sign Chelsea forward Eden Hazard.
Last week Hazard’s father told a Belgian newspaper that his son had refused to sign a new contract with The Blues, and that instead he was waiting for Real to make a bid for him, with Zidane said to be a long-time admirer of the player.
However, according to Spanish newspaper Marca, Real’s directors have now intervened and told Zidane that they are unwilling to sanction a deal for Hazard whilst Marco Asencio remains at the club and continues to be under-utilised.
Whilst the reports, if true, are good news for Chelsea fans, they raise doubts about Zidane’s long-term job security at the Bernabeu, with Real already 14 points behind Barcelona in La Liga, and still licking their wounds from their three – nil home defeat at the hands of their bitter rivals before Christmas.
