Amidst reports of discontent with the club over its transfer policy, Manchester United are said to have been in extensive discussion with manager Jose Mourinho and his representatives with a view to securing an extension to his contract, which expires at the end of next season.
Mourinho has never stayed more than three years at any one club, and he continues to live out of a hotel in Salford, whilst his wife and family remain in London. He has also been linked with a move to PSG, with the French club widely expected to sack current manager Unai Emery at the end of this season.
However, despite this, United are determined to tie down the manager to a new deal at Old Trafford, with United vice-chairman Ed Woodward discussing the way forward with Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes.
At this stage it is unclear what the length of any new contract would be, although his current deal includes an option to extend his tenure by one year to June 2020.
Andy is an exiled English football fan living in Cyprus. He loves all sports but football is his abiding passion, and he still has dreams every now and then about scoring the winning goal in a Wembley Cup Final, even though his playing days are long gone. He follows most major leagues, across Europe at least, and has a favoured team in each. When he’s not watching, listening, reading or downloading podcasts about football, he spend his time worrying about his beloved Arsenal.
