Although Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk remains Liverpool’s number one transfer target, they have begun the search for an alternative should they fail to land his signature, and now Anderlecht defender Kara Mbodji has been identified as one option.
The experienced Senegalese defender has impressed both for club and country this season, and is being monitored by a host of teams apart from Liverpool, including Brighton, as well as clubs from Serie A and the Turkish Super Lig.
Although primarily a central defender, Mbodji can also be deployed in midfield with an eye for the odd goal, and this versatility makes him an attractive proposition for all these teams.
Mbodji already has a link to Liverpool through Senegal international team mate Sadio Mane, and, should the Anfield side decide to make a move for him, this may make them favourites in the race to capture a player who already has 56 international caps to his name and will surely feature for Senegal at next year’s World Cup.
