Borussia Dortmund wants Henrikh Mkhitaryan return

Manchester United Henrikh Mkhitaryan is being linked with a move back to his former club Borussia Dortmund, as the Armenian international has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford.

Mkhitaryan, who only signed for United in 2016, has scored 13 goals in 58 appearances for the club, including one of the goals which helped the Reds secure the Europa League title against Ajax in May.

However, he has been heavily criticised by manager Jose Mourinho in recent weeks, who has said his performances have been “decreasing step by step”, with all aspects of his play – assists, goal scoring, pressing and contribution to the team – being questioned.

The midfielder was again left out of the starting XI as United beat Brighton 1-0 on Saturday, so a return to Dortmund could be on the cards.

Dortmund have their own problems; having started the season brightly, they are out of the Champions League and have slipped to 5th in the Bundesliga, and threw away a 4-goal lead on Saturday against deadly local rivals Schalke in the Ruhr derby to only draw.
