Speculation is growing that Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is considering a move back to Spain with former club Atletico Madrid a potential destination.
The 25-year old Belgian who has 53 caps for his country has 18 months left on his current deal, but has deferred all talk of a contract extension until the end of the season, amidst growing interest from Spanish clubs, with Atletico’s city rivals, Real Madrid, also said to be monitoring developments.
One deciding factor for the player may be the fact his former girlfriend and the couple’s two children have recently relocated back to Spain, and he may favour a move to be nearer to them.
Atletico’s current keeper, Jan Oblak, is wanted by both PSG and Juventus, so there could be a vacancy between the sticks for Courtois to fill there next summer. Real meanwhile, are looking at a replacement for Keylor Navas, and Courtois could be an ideal candidate, although their top target remains David de Gea.
