Arsenal have confirmed that they have successfully head-hunted Borussia Dortmund chief scout Sven Mislintat to become the club’s new head of recruitment starting in December, with the German club receiving around £1.75 million in compensation.
Scouting and recruitment is one area where Arsenal has been seen to fall behind many of their rivals in recent years, with many key transfer targets missed. Now the club has moved to address that problem by recruiting a man credited with spotting some of the brightest talent in Europe during his time in Dortmund, including Robert Lewandowski, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ousmane Dembele.
Current chief scout Steve Rowley has been associated with Arsenal for more than 25 years, but will now step aside with Mislintat’s arrival, although he will continue to work with the club on an ad hoc basis for the time being.
