Allardyce now bookmakers’ favourite for Everton job

Sam Allardyce has been installed as favourite by bookmakers to take the vacant Everton manager position after confirming he would be interested in taking the job if it was offered to him.

The former England manager has been out of work since resigning as Crystal Palace at the end of last summer, but, despite the fact that he claimed at the time he had resigned, he has been recently linked with a number of high profile roles, including those of national team coach for both Scotland and the USA.

Everton sacked manager Ronald Koeman following a dismal run of form which ended with a humiliating home defeat by Arsenal. Under-23 boss David Unsworth has been in temporary charge and was thought to be in prime position to be offered the role on a full-time basis. However, his three matches at the helm have all been lost, and Everton may now be seeking a more experienced man to steer them away from the foot of the Premier League table.

If Allardyce were to be offered the job, one beneficiary would be his old club Palace, who, apparently inserted a clause in his termination agreement to the effect they would receive £2 million in compensation if he accepted a new job in football before a certain date.
