The Mirror reports that Liverpool’s hopes of signing RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner have been boosted by news that the German club’s President has said there is no interest in the player from Bayern Munich.
Bayern were also said to be interested in signing the player next summer, but, after a recent dinner with the board of the Munich club, Leipzig’s Olivier Mintzlaff reported there was no discussion about Werner.
The 21-year old has already scored 6 goals for Germany this year, and was top scorer in this summer’s Confederation Cup. Now odds of him moving to the Premiership after next year’s World Cup have shortened, with Liverpool said to be in pole position for his signature.
Werner made headlines after he asked to be substituted during Leipzig’s Champions League tie away at Besiktas, complaining that the noise from the Turkish fans was making him unwell. However, this has since been explained as the result of a virus, and not indications of an underlying health issue.
