He may have been one of their tormentors in chief when Arsenal thrashed Everton at home a week ago, but now comes news that the owner of the Merseyside club, Farhad Moshiri, wants to make a shock move for Alexis Sanchez.
The Chile forward, out of contract in the summer, has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City. However, with separate reports emerging that City, still upset with the way that Arsenal behaved in the summer – when they agreed a deal for the transfer of Sanchez only to change their minds at the last minute – are not prepared to make another bid for him in January. Instead they will wait for the summer when they can sign him for free on a Bosman.
That has apparently encouraged Moshiri, desperate to add to Everton’s firepower, to consider making a bid for Sanchez, hoping that Arsenal will want to cash-in on the player during the January window rather than see him go for nothing six months later.
However, whether Everton is a club with the profile and standing to appeal to Sanchez, who has previously made clear his wish to play in the Champions League, is unclear.
