Liverpool monitoring teenage Dutch defender

lfc transfer news

Liverpool are among a host of clubs, including Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and Borussia Dortmund, who are monitoring the progress of 17-year old Dutch defender Perr Schuurs.

Already a regular with his club Fortuna Sittard, who play in the second-tier of Dutch football, the 6ft 3 inch centre-back had a brief training spell at Liverpool earlier this year, and the Anfield side are continuing to watch with interest the progress of a player who, despite his youth, has already captained the Fortuna side this season, scoring three goals in the process.

Liverpool scouts watched Schuurs recently as he played for the Netherlands under-19 side against Hungary and Slovenia, and although he has been advised to stay in Holland for the time being to develop his career, the young player could find a move to Merseyside hard to turn down.

If Liverpool were to sign Schuurs, it would be very much with the future in mind. Jurgen Klopp continues to be interested in buying more experienced players like fellow Dutchmen Virgil van Dijk and Stefan de Vrij to strengthen a Liverpool back-line which has been their weakness so far this season.
