Ronald Koeman receives the dreaded ‘vote of confidence’

Ronald Koeman has received the dreaded “vote of confidence” from Everton majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, in the wake of increasing calls for the Dutch manager to lose his job following the club’s disappointing home defeat to Burney on Sunday.

This followed an embarrassing home draw against Cypriot minnows Appollon Limassol last Thursday night in the Europa League, and a humiliating loss away to Atalanta in the same competition a fortnight ago, combined with a start to the season which sees them languish in 16th place in the Premier League as the teams head into the international break.

Moshiri points out that there are mitigating factors for Everton’s poor form, including a fixture list that has already seen them play the top 4 teams in the League and a string of injuries. However, after having spent more than £142 million on new players in the summer, and recruiting players like Wayne Rooney and Gylfi Sigurdsson, Everton supporters would have been hoping for a better return on that investment.

Koeman will need to show an improvement in form when Everton return to action at Brighton in 12 days’ time, or he could be on borrowed time on Merseyside.
