Manchester United are considering a move for Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann, according to The Express.
United manager Jose Mourinho is said to be a big admirer of the French international who has scored 85 goals in 165 appearances for Atletico, and was considering a move for him before the start of this season.
However, when Atletico received a worldwide transfer ban which embargoed them registering new players until January 1, 2018, Griezmann decided to stay with La Liga club.
Now things have changed. The transfer ban will shortly be lifted and Atletico have already secured the services of the returning Diego Costa from Chelsea. This may persuade them to sell Griezmann, who has a contract with the Spanish club until 2022 to United, who would need to pay £88 million to trigger his release clause.
United, however, can expect stiff competition to secure Griezmann’s signature; both Real Madrid and Barcelona are reported to be interested in the player as well.
