Arsenal fans have expressed their disappointment as one of the club’s top summer targets, Mario Lemina, has started quite well at Southampton, reports the Mirror.
The 24-year-old stalwart received Man of the Match award for his fantastic performance this past weekend in the Saints’ 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace.
The Gunners were reportedly interested in bringing the Gabon international to the Emirates. Arsene Wenger wanted to increase the depth of their midfield comprising of Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey and Francis Coquelin, but the North Londoners opted to give former wonderkid Jack Wilshere another chance in the first team after a loan spell with Bournemouth.
Arsenal’s interest in the former Juventus midfielder wasn’t one-sided.
“Of course those links flatter me, but personally I’ve never doubted my qualities,” said the player prior to his switch to the Premier League.
Lemina’s price tag was just £18 million, a very affordable figure for the Premier League giants. The failure to secure his signature left fans worried and disappointed.
