Most impressive Chelsea records over the last decade

Since the takeover of Chelsea by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich over a decade or so ago, the Blues have become a dominant force in the English Premier League and they have also made significant forays in European competitions, having won the Champions League and the Europa League in successive seasons.

The Pensioners hold the record for most wins in a single season with 29 from 38 games. They achieved the feat twice, first in the 2004/05 season under the stewardship of Jose Mourinho and repeated the success the following season, again under the Portuguese schemer.

Mourinho’s side are known for their impressive home records, it took nine years for the Portuguese before he suffered a league home defeat. He went undefeated as a manager in a home league game in Portugal, then England, then Italy before he finally suffered his first league home reverse as Real Madrid boss against Sporting Gijon. In the 2005/06 season, Chelsea won all but one of their home league games, creating another record.

In the 2004/05 Premier League season, the Blues registered 15 away wins from 19 games, creating a record that has remained untouched since.

For four successive seasons: 2004/05, 2005/06, 2006/07 and 2007/08, Chelsea went undefeated at home. They achieved the same feat last season as well, and remain the only side in the history of the Premier League to have gone undefeated at home for five seasons. They went undefeated at Stamford Bridge for a record 86 games from 21st February 2004 to 26th October 2008.

Carlo Ancelotti’s 2009/10 Chelsea team are considered one of the most attractive Blues teams of all time and they certainly proved it with goals as they registered 103 strikes over the course of their title-winning campaign. It remains the highest goal tally for a Premier League team ever.

Mourinho’s 2004/05 Chelsea conceded a mere 15 league goals on their way to the Premier League glory, a record for the least number of goals conceded over the course of a full season.

Chelsea legend Petr Cech, who now plies his trade for Arsenal, holds the record for the most clean sheets by any keeper in the Premier League with 171.
