Top 5 Indian stars in ISL 2015

The Indian Super League has given a great platform for the Indian youngsters to test their mettle against some of the very best players of world football. The experience of rubbing shoulders with the likes of Zico, Roberto Carlos, Nicolas Anelka, Marco Materazzi and Simao Sabrosa will do wonders for their careers.

Certainly some Indian players have grabbed the opportunity with both hands and have impressed with their displays in the competition. Here are four standout Indian performers at this year’s ISL.

Arata Izumi

The India international has been a regular fixture in league leaders Atletico de Kolkata’s midfield. The 33-year-old has also contributed four goals to his side and his assured displays for the West Bengal side bode well for their chances in the tournament as they gear up for the knock-out phase and retain the title they won last term.

Sunil Chhetri

After missing out on the action in the first season of the ISL, the Indian national team captain signed for Mumbai City for the second edition and has been one of the bright spots for an otherwise poor season for the Mumbai side. His form has dipped off late, but his tally still reads six goals from ten appearances.

Amrinder Singh

The young custodian has been a formidable presence between the sticks for Atletico de Kolkata. Amrinder’s displays have been one of the reasons behind his team having the best defensive record in the league thus far. If the West Bengal outfit are to go all the way and win their second successive title, they will need their goalkeeper to continue with his heroics. Meanwhile, the India Under-23 international has made a case for a call-up to the senior side.

Sanju Pradhan

The NorthEast United winger has been a livewire on the pitch. He has gone on to feature 11 times for the Highlanders and has contributed two assists to their cause as they sit fourth in the standings and vie for a spot in the last four. The 26-year-old’s displays will likely see him add to the three caps he has won for the Indian national team.
